How to Play Shanghai, Simple and Competitive
Shanghai, the perfect dart game to play with a lot of friends
The goal of the game
The Shanghai can be played alone as an amazing practice game, or with a group of friends no matter how many. You just have to score points by reaching the single, double and triple zones of the numbers from 1 to 20 on the target. Each number is called a "round". The Shanghai is played in 20 rounds.
Playing the game and scores
Shanghai is generaly played in the order of numbers. It begins with round 1 that designates the number 1. Each player tries to reach the number 1 to score points, because only the designated number counts. A triple worth 3 points, 2 points for a double and a single worth 1 point.
Players only got one throw (three darts) by round and accumulates points. Once all players have completed a round, they go to the next round until the 20 rounds are played. The player who accumulates the most points wins.
Always calculate up your scores on the scoreboard. If you score 18 points in round 6 (3 x single 6), you add 18 points to the total score of your previous round which was 41. So write down a total of 59 points for the round 6.
But, there is another way to win !
A player who reaches the single zone, double zone and the triple zone of the designated number in the same throw, makes a Shanghai and wins the game instantly, regardless of the points scored on the scoreboard.
Tips
Try to reach the triple zone with your first dart. If you succeed, you will be in a better position to attempt a Shanghai.
Elimination rounds
To increase the difficulty level when you are a lot of players, the player with no points at a round is automatically eliminated. What a great way to motivate some !
